This document is a collection of case studies and articles that address how relationships between humans and nature function in socio-ecological production landscapes around the world. The examples highlight the various physical structures, management techniques and governance systems that characterize these landscapes, as well as the benefits they provide for biodiversity and human well-being, the threats they currently face, and ways to address these threats.

This document presents the results of a series of initiatives implemented by IPs’ organizations, development agencies, FAO and the UNPFII to position Communication for Development as a key element in achieving social change and guaranteeing IPs the opportunity to benefit from their rights.

The Nepal Biodiversity Strategy (NBS) is an important tool for implementing the provisions under CBD. It serves as an overall framework for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and biological resources through the management of habitat, species and genetic diversity in the country.

The project examined the extent to which the legal framework of 24 selected African countries impacts on and protects the rights of indigenous peoples.

The State of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is the result of a collaborative effort, organized by the Secretariat of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. The Chapters were written by independent experts. This publication discussed many of the issues addressed by the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It is divided into seven chapters, based on the six mandated areas of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, in addition to chapters on emerging issues.

A key message of this report is that without better understanding the determinants of smallholders’ participation in agricultural markets, and formulating appropriate measures to facilitate improved participation, initiatives seeking to promote the adoption of productivity enhancing technology by smallholder producers are likely to have limited success.

This paper seeks to establish that indigenous peoples are a dynamic element of modern and centuries-old movements of peoples, raising questions for policymakers, indigenous activists and researchers alike.
