The traditional pickles of indigenous fruits and vegetables, viz., galgal, lingri, aaroo, plum, lasura, dehu, kachnar and beedana are popular in rural and urban areas of Himachal Pradesh since the very early times. These are used as appetizers and served practically with every meal. The traditional pickles of Himachal Pradesh are unique in the raw material, method of preparation and taste from the pickles in other parts of country. In the present study, the methods of preparation of traditional pickles as practiced by the rural folk have been documented.

Who Steals Indigenous Knowledge?

The aim of this study is to show that the policy debate has proceeded largely in abstraction, with little regard to two key questions of fact: To what extent does indigenous knowledge actually get into the commercial patent system? Are the same kinds of entities responsible for the original research in indigenous communities and for patent-protected commercialization of the leads gained from community-level research?

The study argues that IK is an imprecisely formulated term and highlights recent scholarship that sees IK and WS as constructed categories that emerged in particular historical circumstances. It concludes by discussing briefly the notion that these mutually exclusive labels should be avoided, so as not to privilege some forms of knowledge over others.

Past, Present and Perspectives of Manipur Traditional Medicine: a Major Health Care System Available for Rural Population in the North-East India

The survey recorded traditional knowledge on 949 formulations used for 66 human ailments. Five hundred forty six plant products, 42 animal products and 22 organic/inorganic materials were found to be used in these 949 formulations. Five plant species – Zingiber officinale Zingiberaceae), Cocos nucifera (Arecaceae), Oroxylum indicum (Bignonaceae), Curcuma longa (Zingiberaceae) and Allium sativum (Liliaceae) used by maximum number of Maiba and Maibi in maximum number of formulations.
