This paper deals with local knowledge of Ireres tribe in utilizing vegetation for meet fuel needs. Purpose of this study was to reveal traditional knowledge for making fire by means of traditional process that were handed down from generation to generation within their tribe.

They actively contributed to negotiations leading to the establishment of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in 1993, and subsequently to the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in September 2007. They also ensured that a resolution on indigenous women was adopted at the 49th Session of the Commission of the Status of the Women (CSW) in March, 2005.
