A traditional Food: Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) and Heather [Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull] honeys

Abstract:
The total phenolic contents of the honeys were 93.15 and 96.39 mg GAE/100 gm of honey.Antioxidant activity of both honeys were determined as6.49 ± 0.16 % and 11.33 ± 0.22%. HMF contents of Helianthus annuus honey and Calluna vulgaris honeys were found as 63.75 ± 1.90 and 94.66 ± 1.36 mg/Kg, respectively. K, Na and Fe contents of Helianthus annuus honey and Calluna vulgaris honeys were dtermined as 1229.10 and 3285.31 mg/Kg, 1907.70 and 1964.42 mg/Kg, 2285.36 and 1124.91 mg/Kg and 181.20 and 176.60 mg/Kg, respectively. All quality indicators for both honey samples were in compliance with the regulations, except for HMF and diastase number.
