Abstract:
This book elucidates the essential function of socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) in securing and augmenting ecological connectedness. This compilation of varied case studies illustrates how integrated landscape and seascape management can facilitate biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable development.
The chapters include sustainable agriculture practices, forest conservation, community engagement, and the safeguarding of traditional knowledge. It encompasses the empowering of communities to manage their natural resources, shown as the Asunafo-Asutifi landscape in Ghana, and the amalgamation of traditional knowledge with contemporary ecological techniques in Nan’an. The book examines the possibilities of community forests in Thailand and the management of biocultural heritage lands in Kenya to improve ecological connectedness. Readers will learn how these methods aid in biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of natural resources. Expert authors explore the problems and potential of preserving biological connectedness across diverse places, including Ghana's cocoa landscapes and Colombia’s tropical dry zone. Readers will examine novel strategies for harmonizing livelihoods with environmental sustainability, emphasizing the significance of local and regional viewpoints.
