Publication Year: 2025
Author(s): Pineda JEM, Osorio AF,Toro C, Velásquez-Calderón CS
Abstract:
This book examines climate change adaptation and sustainable development in the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, the world’s largest biosphere reserve in the southwest Caribbean. It explores future climate patterns, relationships between humans and nature, and the importance of biosphere reserves as “living laboratories” for interdisciplinary adaptation strategies in vulnerable tropical island regions. The book connects ecosystem services, human well-being, and climate resilience while linking local experiences to global sustainability challenges. It also highlights the knowledge and struggles of the indigenous Raizal people and discusses pathways for collective action, adaptive capacity, and sustainable development in biosphere reserves worldwide.
