Planning in Indigenous Australia: From Imperial Foundations to Postcolonial Futures
Publication Year: 2017
Author(s): Jackson S, Porter L, Johnson L C
Abstract:
Planning in settler-colonial countries consistently occurs on the territories of Indigenous peoples. Although there is a growing conversation about Indigenous rights, identity, and cultural values in the field of planning, the dominant narratives in this field mostly overlook the historical and ongoing influence of colonialism on the discipline's underlying assumptions, tactics, and methodologies. This revolutionary work reveals the imperial roots of the planning canon, profession, and practice in Australia, a country that was established through settler-colonialism.
