History Of The Technique A knowledge holder from Ri-Bhoi region has been practicing pig rearing for the past 10 years currently, there are two pigs reared for meat production. The traditional knowledge was obtained from his ancestors.
Manufacturing technique The traditional type of Pig Shed design is a semi-intensive form of rearing with a tin roof covered at the top and spacing.
Method of Preparation Traditionally, the pigs are fed with rice husk along with some vegetables and other left-over food items from the house. They fed twice a day with an average weight of 25-30 kg each.
How to implement The sink which is used as a plate for serving the pigs is carved from wood. They adopted a bedding material on the floor, to reduce the water requirement and also provide good manure (faeces and urines of pig get mixed with the bedding material and forms good manure). As shared by the Traditional Knowledge Holder (TKH), the main diseases affecting the pigs are skin rashes and dysentery, these diseased are treated mainly at the Veterinary.
