History Of The Technique | The knowledge holder established his knowledge in making Bamboo baskets locally called “Khoh Polo” that has been practiced by ancestor and consider as a potential source of additional income. |
Manufacturing technique | The whole stem of bamboo locally called “shken” were collected from the forest area, cut with a billhook/dao and split longitudinally into strips called “Jingdang, Jingsuh and Jingthain”. To obtain a smooth surface, the upper layer of these strips were scraped off and measured 7-8 ft of jingdang and 3-4 ft of jingsuh. All these strips were soaked in water for 1 hr so that it can be bent into shape without shatter. The strips (Jingdang and jingsuh) was first bent horizontally and vertically from the base called ka “dang”. Using the old frame of “khoh Polo” called “ka Pha”, the strips “jingdang and jingsuh” were bent vertically over the old frame and horizontally by the strips “jingthain”. At the top of the baskets, called “ka jingwai” was done by bending the “jingdang and jingsuh” simultaneously |
Method of Preparation | Sken (Bamboo), Jingdang, Jingsuh, Jingthain, Bamboo strips were soaked in water for 1 hr. |
