History Of The Technique The society comprises of 20 members in total and they practiced the traditional weaving knowledge, locally called “thain syria” make from fibres extracted from locally available plant species such as dieng thiah thi, dieng stein, dieng lbong japeh, tiew main khla, jyrmi kyrsew, dieng jajah, dieng tlieh and sla sohtrun.This knowledge has been practiced by an ancestor 200 years ago and passed on from generation to generation.
Manufacturing technique Semi- hardwood of young branches were collected from the forest area. The leaves and twigs were cut and removed, inner-bark of young branches were peeled and split into parts followed by sun-dried for 30 minutes. Using the shin and water, the dried inner-bark were rolled into fine ropes/threads, followed by sewing with hands to complete the finished product. For Pineapple leaves (Sla sohtrun), the leaves were used, dried and rolled into fine ropes/threads.
Method of Preparation No dyeing materials were used and the durable period is 100 years.
Material Composition Split part of Dieng stain, Peel fiber after Sun dried for 30 minutes & Hand sewing Finished product called “Pla Syria”.
