Abstract:
The traditional knowledge on medicinal plants, when confirmed by antimicrobial and phytochemical studies, can lead to the development of drugs and plant-based medicine. Twenty selected plants that are used for the treatment of various ailments by the Ibaloi tribe in Bayabas, Sablan were tested for antibacterial activity and analysed for phytochemical constituents. The information derived herein provides scientific basis for the ethno-botanical knowledge of the local community. The phytochemicals of the plants when developed further, can offer a less-expensive treatment for various ailments.
